Perspective

** A Little Perspective Goes a Long Way**

The other morning while sipping coffee with my husband in the hot tub we got talking about perspectives. That conversation reminded me about a story where I learned from my 8 yr old grandson, Breck. It left me reflecting on how differently we can see the world, especially in light of all that is happening in today’s world.

Breck had been visiting and wanted to play with the boys next door. I told him to go to the house on his right, thinking it was pretty straightforward. But when he returned, he looked puzzled and told me, very confidently, “Nonie, that was an old lady’s house! She thought we shouldn’t be asking kids to come over!”

I was baffled! “Did you go to your right after going out the front door?” I asked, and he replied, “Of course, Nonie! But I closed the door first, then turned to my right!”

In that moment, I realized he was completely right! His idea of “going to the right” started after he closed the door, while I was thinking of the house immediately next to us.

This little mishap was such a sweet reminder that perspective really is everything, neither of us was “wrong.” What seems obvious to one person might look entirely different to another.

So, here’s a gentle nudge to all of us: Let’s be open to understanding where others are coming from. Sometimes, all it takes is a little grace and patience to see the world through someone else’s eyes!
